Element / Matrix in general was not originally designed to be a drop in replacement for Discord and lately funding of development has mainly come from contracts with various public sector organizations like governments etc. For their work they don't need all the stuff Discord has to do chats with employees. Basically no one has stepped up with the funding to make it more Discord like.

status update on the bridge: I'm gonna need to redo the permissions to only be the mandatory ones. I've kicked it from the server which may have messed up some existing bridges to it, but for security reasons I need to do it
